Lil brain exercise.
One of the my most favorite puzzles.
There are 5 thieves and all 5 of them are "extremely intelligent and extremely greedy". They steal 200 gold coins. Now it is distribution time. The rules are
1 is junior to 2 who is junior to 3 and so on.
The seniormost suggests a distribution plan which is accepted if it is aye'd by atleast 50%. If not, he is shot dead and the next seniormost suggests a plan. So if 5 suggests a plan, it needs to be okayed by atleast 3 guys otherwise he will be shot dead. If 4 suggests a plan, atleast 2 should agree and so on.
So what is the final distribution?

Are you my Math teacher come back to haunt me? I will try my best to solve this but I know I won't get it right.
If 3, 4 and 5 are shot dead the distribution will be 100 coins to 1 and 100 coins to 2.
1 and 2 will never agree with anyone else.
If 4 and 5 are shot dead, whatever 3 proposes 1 and 2 won't agree and 3 will be shot.
If 5 has been shot 4 can propose to split the coins with 3 alone, the 50% rule is obeyed and they get away with the whole loot if 3 agrees. 3 is smart and knows he has no chance if he gets alone with 1 and 2. Knowing this 3 and 4 won't agree with 5.
100 coins to 3 and 100 coins to 4.
There are no rules stating everybody survives nor everybody gets coins, righ
On second thought, if 1 and 2 know this, they would rather agree with 5, so that 3 and 4 would set things in a way 1 and 2 would get no coins. This way 5 can propose to split the 200 by 5 evenly. 40 coins each is the final distribution.
Hmm... They're too greedy to settle for 40 coins...
I think #2 walks away with all 200.
