I was watching this Hindi movie Parineeta, when this question crossed my mind. What would be that one thing that one would miss the most because one did not know a particular language. For me it would be literature. There is so much of untranslated work in other languages that I would love to read. What a pity!!!
Tell me what is that one thing that you think you miss the most because you do not know a particular language?
I think, talking to someone would have to discount many things like both of you not knowing a common language. But yes thats an interesting activity too.
Music certainly crosses all the barriers. Specially the instrumental stuff.... Kenny G.... anytime.
Well, I think the biggest thing for me also would be literature. I am a writer and to not be able to understand the written or spoken language of that culture would definitely be heartbreaking.
I own a couple of very small restaurants. This blog is intended to share some anecdotes from the journey so far and some hilarious experiences I have had. This is also a story from the "other side". A customer can review us from the outside on various forums. Some of the views are balanced and some not. Some have had genuine bad experiences and some, made up. But a restaurant management side rarely gets a chance to tell their side of the story. This is a let out for such feelings and thoughts too. I shall also try to share some recipes here. These would be practical recipes that one can make in a jiffy or at least on a short notice.
So heres wishing me all the best in this endeavour.
F-ftOS.

Conversation, that's what I would miss.
And now that you've mentioned it...literature!
You are so right, so many beautiful works, untranslated.
I've found some translated works in our cupboard. Bliss.
Isn't it interesting though how music crosses barriers? No translation needed sometimes?

I love all music. Someone introduced me to Maurice Ravel, a French composer from a while back. He's amazing. And Jobim from Brazil.
Kenny G makes me think of sunsets, cool breeze and coconut trees. Niiiice.
I havent heard them... will try to get my hands on their records.

Without words I would lose the ground beneath my feet.
